The College of Education at the University of Iowa is making a major investment in addressing critical mental health issues. The Department of Counselor Education is working to make a significant impact in the field of rural mental health in the State of Iowa. We are seeking a dedicated and innovative clinical faculty member to contribute to our growing Clinical Mental Health Counseling Program.
Position
The Department of Counselor Education at the University of Iowa invites applications for an open rank clinical-track, academic year faculty position in the Clinical Mental Health Counseling Program. Starting date for the successful candidate will be negotiable, but not to begin later than August 2025. We seek an individual with interests and experience related to clinical mental health counseling, rural communities, and counselor development.
The preferred candidate should be able to demonstrate the following through their work experience:
Skill in effective teaching and clinical supervision.
Skill as an effective instructor at the undergraduate and or graduate levels.
Commitment to professional service that advances the research, training, and clinical work intended to improve and support individual’s mental health including those in rural communities.
The successful candidate will join a clinical supervision and training partnership with the Clinical Mental Health Counseling Program to teach graduate-level courses. This individual will also join in partnership with the Scanlan Center for School Mental Health. The program, following College of Education trends, has strong department, college, university, and clinical community support, and is committed to an environment that values diversity and collegiality. The preferred candidate will have a strong commitment to evidence-based practice and will be experienced in implementation of CACREP accreditation standards in mental health counselor education.
Responsibilities
Being a core faculty member in the Clinical Mental Health Counseling master’s program.
Serve as Clinical Coordinator for the Clinical Mental Health Counseling program.
Collaboration with the faculty on clinical experience requirements and student experiences.
Develop relationships with community counseling agencies that will lead to clinical placements of graduate students.
In coordination with Clinical Coordinators, provide professional development to site supervisors.
Coordinate field placements and provide effective supervision of MA students in CMHC.
Implement, collect, and organize students’ clinical files required by accreditation, licensure, and program evaluation.
Teach courses in the Clinical Mental Health Counseling MA program, in areas consistent with the candidate’s interests and department needs.
Advise students.
Work and collaborate with people from culturally, linguistically, racially, and socioeconomically diverse groups.
Engage in professional, university, collegiate, and or departmental service that advances the research, training, and clinical work intended to improve the lives of school-age children, educators, and schools’ environments.

Education Requirement
By August 2025, prospective candidates must have an earned doctorate in Counseling from a Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP) accredited program, or a closely related field with a master’s degree from a CACREP accredited program.
Required Qualifications
Concentration or specialization in Clinical Mental health Counseling.
Experience in teaching undergraduate/graduate courses.
Experience in providing clinical supervision reflective of CACREP standards and practices.
Demonstrated commitment to creating positive relationships with community counseling providers including school settings.
Be a National Certified Counselor, NCC, or certification eligible.
Desirable Qualifications
Demonstrated ability to create and foster an academic environment inclusive of culturally, linguistically, racially, and socioeconomically different populations
Eligible for LMHC in the State of Iowa.
Established teaching, research, and service record reflective of expected requirements for appointment at the rank of Clinical Associate or Clinical Full Professor, respectively.
Experience in the practice of clinical mental health counselor.
Be LMHC, LPC or eligible for counselor licensure.
Experience teaching in a CACREP accredited graduate program.
