Behavioral Health Counselor (Full-Time Nights)

Impact Lives in the WakeMed Community as a Behavioral Health Counselor

As a Behavioral Health Counselor, you are responsible for the provision of mental health and substance abuse consultant services at WakeMed, including assessment, crisis intervention, counseling and patient/family education. Responsibilities include:

• Assisting the physician in determining and facilitating the patient disposition and referrals to treatment and community resources post discharge.
• Facilitating involuntary commitments as directed by the physician.
• Assisting with ensuring patient safety for behavioral health patients.
• Participating in hospital and community initiatives that address mental health/substance abuse issues.
• Providing expertise in mental health/substance abuse issues to the interdisciplinary team including in-service education and support.

Work Schedule:

• Monday – Friday, 11:00PM – 7:30AM
• No weekend requirements
• No call requirements

Education Required:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing Required or Master’s Degree in Social Work or Counseling Required
• Master’s Degree in Nursing Preferred

Experience Requirements:

• Either of the below is required:
  • 3 Years Clinical - Mental Health
  • 3 Years Clinical - Substance Abuse/Addiction

Licensure/Certification Requirements:

• At least one of the below is required:
• Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor
• Licensed Clinical Social Worker
• Licensed Clinical Addictions Specialist
• Registered Nurse and Certified Mental Health Nurse
• Certified Notary Preferred
