AREA AND FUNCTION: Under the supervision of the Dean of Student Affairs or designee, the Clinical Director of Student Wellness Services is responsible for overseeing, planning, developing and executing prevention and wellness services, including counseling and disability support, that promote the health, safety and wellbeing of students Essex County College.
CHARACTERISTICS, DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Oversee the planning, development and execution of day-to-day program, operations and services for Student Wellness Center and throughout the College that fosters retention and enhance overall student well-being and academic success. Services include, but not limited to counseling, nutrition, fitness, mental health, disability, accessibility, health education, prevention, and other wellness related services.
Hire, train, supervise and evaluate staff of the Wellness Center to ensure that services are provided in accordance with state, federal and College regulations.
Provides clinical and counseling services to students and employees to support wellness in the areas of mental and physical health.
Develop and maintain assessment tools to track utilization and measure effectiveness of services offered. Establish and implement regulations, guidelines and procedures for the effective administration of the center.
Supervise the implementation of effective services that promote student wellness that are beneficial both on and off campus through the delivery of quality programs utilizing a holistic approach focused on healthy lifestyle choices for enrolled students. Develop procedures that will effectively deliver services, accessibility, tools and equipment to students in need including the visually and hearing impaired and students with learning disabilities.
Develop effective marketing strategies to promote and provide outreach and wellness programs, events, workshops, trainings and other activities of the Wellness Center to the college community. Develop, produce and disseminate brochures, manuals and related publications on wellness services. Establish positive relationships with community resources to enhance deliverables of program.
Develop and maintain collaborative relationship with local graduate programs in social work or clinical psychology, as well as, with community partners to improve the Wellness Center operations
Develop service networks for the referral of students and sustain relationships.
Coordinate and collaborate with internal departments and external agencies for the delivery of services. Serve on appropriate internal and external committees devoted to student and employee wellness.
Responsible for operations of wellness center; as well as, development and monitoring of departmental budget in adherence to established college regulations, policies and procedures.
Stay abreast of leading technology, best practices in the field of wellness, learning and emerging issues and initiatives in the field of campus counseling, mental health, student health, wellness, disability awareness and accessibility services.
Ensure the security and maintenance of protected health information and disposal of records in accordance with federal, state, local and institutional regulations.
Maintain strict confidentiality and security of staff, student, and client records.
Prepare routine, special, and ancillary reports as required.
Performs other related duties as required.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND GIVEN:
Oral and written instructions are received from the Dean of Student Affairs or designee. The Clinical Director of Student Wellness Services may supervise administrative, professional and support staff, and student workers.
MINIMUM ACCEPTABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
Doctorate degree in Clinical Psychology preferred
Must possess an active license in the state of New Jersey as a Clinical Psychologist, Social Worker (LCSW), Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) or related licensing.
Administrative or managerial experience in wellness related activities and initiatives; preferably in higher education at the community college level.
Experience working with students preferably in higher education.
Knowledge of student support programs and services preferably in higher education.
Experience working with community resources and social service agencies.
Experience in individual and group psychotherapy and counseling theories and practices.
Knowledge of local, state and federal regulations pertaining to health care delivery systems including HIPAA, FERPA, and the Jeanne Cleary Act.
Experience working effectively with diverse academic, staff and student populations as well as external constituents.
Leadership experience inclusive of development and coaching of employees
Strong organizational and analytical skills and excellent interpersonal skills.
Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
Ability to work in a multi-cultural environment.
Available to work some evening and weekends
Travel may be required
PREFERRED DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
Doctorate degree in prepared Clinical Psychology, Social Work, Clinical Psychology or related area.
Five or more years of progressive administrative or managerial experience in wellness related initiatives in higher education at the community college level.
Three years’ experience working with community resources and social service agencies.
Demonstrated ability to interpret technical procedures and regulations, credentialing, and certifications of staff training and qualifications.
Knowledge of emerging issues in the field of mental health, student health, wellness and accessibility.
Certification in the area of wellness as professional or practitioner.
